ICC Calls On Canadian Government To Designate Samidoun A Terrorist Organization

Toronto, ON – The Israeli Canadian Council (ICC) is urging the Canadian government to follow in the footsteps of Israel and designate Samidoun, a Palestinian prisoner advocacy group, as a terrorist organization.

The call comes in the wake of recent displays of antisemitism at Toronto Al Quds Day events which were supported by Samidoun. The group has been accused of having ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a leftist militant organization that has been designated as a terrorist group by several countries, including Canada.

In February 2021, the Israeli Ministry of Defense designated Samidoun as a terrorist organization, citing its ties to the PFLP and its involvement in supporting and promoting terrorist activities. The Ministry also identified Khaled Barakat, a coordinator of Samidoun, as being involved in establishing militant cells and motivating terrorist activity in Judea & Samaria and abroad.

We believe that Samidoun poses a serious threat to the security of Canada and its Jewish community, and that it should be designated as a terrorist organization by the Canadian government.

The ICC is urging the Canadian government to take action against Samidoun, including freezing its assets and preventing it from operating in Canada. “Designating Samidoun as a terrorist organization would send a clear message that Canada will not tolerate groups that promote violence and hatred,” said Ron East, founder of ICC.
