Concern Regarding The Upcoming Al Quds Day Parade

Dear Deputy Mayor McKelvie,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the upcoming Al Quds Day parade that is scheduled to take place on April 15, 2023. As you know, this event has become a platform for spreading Antisemitic messages and inciting hatred towards the Jewish community.

The Al Quds Day march, which originated in Iran, has been used by some participants in Toronto to express support for terrorist groups that seek the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. These messages are not only offensive to the Jewish community, but they also promote intolerance and division in our city.

I strongly urge you to take action to prevent the spread of Antisemitic and hate speech in our city. It is important that we send a clear message that such behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in Toronto.

I suggest that measures be put in place to ensure that the Al Quds Day march does not become a platform for antisemitism and hate speech. Such measure should include monitoring of speeches and signage for hate speech, and enforcing penalties for violations of anti•hate guidelines. Additionally the city must require permits for such events, so that the it can have greater control over the message being sent by the parade.

As citizens, it is our duty to stand up against hate and intolerance. I hope that you will take the necessary steps to protect the safety and well-being of the Jewish community in Toronto, and to ensure that the Al Quds Doy parade does not become a platform for Antisemitic and hateful messages.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely, Ron Eost
