City of Winnipeg Adoption of IHRA Definition of Antisemitism

Dear Councillor Chambers,

I am writing on behalf of the Israeli Canadian Council (ICC) to express our strong support for the City of Winnipeg’s adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. As concerned members of our community, we believe that it is essential that we take a stand against all forms of hate and discrimination, including antisemitism.

The IHRA definition provides a clear and concise framework for identifying and combating antisemitism in all its forms. It recognizes that antisemitism is not limited to overt acts of violence or hatred, but can also manifest in more subtle forms such as stereotyping and prejudice.

By adopting the IHRA definition, the City of Winnipeg sends a clear message that we will not tolerate antisemitism in any form. It provides a common language and framework for identifying and addressing instances of antisemitism, which is essential for creating a cohesive and inclusive society.

Moreover, the adoption of the IHRA definition is an important step toward combating all forms of hate and discrimination. It sets a standard for how we can address discrimination against any marginalized group and provides a clear framework for holding individuals and organizations accountable for their actions.

I urge you to take action to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism and to work towards creating a more inclusive and tolerant society. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against hate and discrimination. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,

Ron East
