Proposed “Nakba” Exhibit At Winnipeg Human Rights Museum

Dear Ms. Khan,

I am writing to express my deep concern about the proposed Nakba exhibit at the museum. As a member of the Jewish community, I feel that such an exhibit could have a detrimental effect on our community.

The Nakba, or “catastrophe,” refers to the displacement and dispossession of Palestinian refugees during the establishment of the State of Israel. While this is undoubtedly a significant event in the history of the region, the proposed exhibit seems to focus exclusively on the Palestinian perspective, without taking into account the Jewish perspective or the historical context of the events.

I fear that such an exhibit would not only be biased and one-sided, but could also promote a false narrative that demonizes Israel and the Jewish people, and could fuel antisemitic sentiment in our community.

As a museum that is dedicated to promoting human rights and respect for diversity, I believe it is important that the museum remains impartial and presents a balanced and accurate representation of history. I urge you to reconsider this exhibit and to ensure that any future exhibits are inclusive of all perspectives and are free from bias.

I also encourage the museum to immediately engage in dialogue with members of the Jewish community, including Jewish organizations and leaders, to address any concerns or misconceptions about the future of any such exhibit.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing your response.

Sincerely, Ron East
